Stop!

I recently downloaded a new application called App Stop. A very useful application that locates in the menu bar of your Mac. In comes in great use for people who have a decent amount of memory yet not a lot of CPU. I use it when I want to keep another program open, but not really use it. Let's say you are doing a lot of image editing in Photoshop, and you want to break and read your e-mail or talk to some people in iChat, but you don't want to quit it or close any of the open images. Normally, you would just hide Photoshop, but you are still using some CPU. So, you freeze it with App Stop! Everything is still open, but not using any CPU. Thus other open apps may run faster. Additionally, you can set the priority of all of your processes; basically, you are determining which process gets more CPU than another. Personally, I would want a program like Photoshop to run faster than other smaller applications.

App Stop is currently in Universal binary. So it runs on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. According to the site, it is untested as Universal.
